A set of starters and art vocabulary for KS3 and 4 Art lessons. Each activity is a ten minute thinking skills concept with learners asked to consider the artist, their interpretation, feelings and judgements on the work. It also contains vocabulary needed to make each learner consider the wording they use when describing aspects of art such as tome, line, contrast and form. It gives them suggested starter questions for them to consider their work and in assessing or judging famous artists work as well as asking them to consider how they could obtain further marks in their own work by creating coherent assessment statements for exam and internal assessments.

Welsh Celtic Art Block Printing

(0)
This lesson is a complete session on block printing. Using Polyblock, a polystyrene tile, to create a unique piece of printed work. It introduces the work of Jean Philippe Arthur Dubuffet (31 July 1901 – 12 May 1985) French painter and sculptor who used block printing to create his work. It askes the learners to discuss and evaluate his work using a set of questions. Using this as a starting point for block printing the learners are then asked to look at Welsh Celtic art, create their own, and create a block print of their work. With very few resources this lesson is simple to do and gives learners an introduction to block printing. The resources required are minimal, only needing a polystyrene tile, pen, print roller and ink. With these the learners can create a unique piece of block printed art work.
